The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation offers support, funding, and opportunities for African entrepreneurs with innovative engineering solutions that bring social and environmental benefits to sub-Saharan Africa.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be written in English
• Must have a high level of English language proficiency
• Must be over 18 years old
• Cannot be an alumni of the Africa Prize
• Can apply as an individual or as part of a team
• Must be a citizen of a country in sub-Saharan Africa
• Must be based in sub-Saharan Africa
• Innovation must be based in a country in sub-Saharan Africa
• Must have an engineering innovation
• Must provide a letter of support from a university, research institution, innovation hub, or previous incubator program
• Industrial researchers and establishments are not eligible
• Innovation can be in any field of engineering
• Must provide a letter of consent from the originators/collaborators of the IP
• Must provide a technical diagram and photo showcasing the innovation
• Must have developed and be in the early stages of commercializing the innovation
• Must have a business plan with strong commercial viability
• Must bring social and/or environmental benefits to a country/countries in sub-Saharan Africa
• Must have potential to be replicated and scaled-up
